KUANTAN, Aug 28 - Man shot by gunman during carjacking at Kuantan hotel. Four men assaulted a businessman, fired two shots at him and fled with his car as he was about to check in to a hotel here early today after driving down from Kuala Terengganu on business.
They hit Lee Siew Meng, 42, with hard and sharp objects and one of them fired the shots, badly injuring him in the right shoulder and left side of the body, said Pahang CID chief SAC Mohd Zakaria Ahmad.
He said Lee had driven up to the hotel in Jalan Air Putih at 4.15 am and was confronted soon after.
He was rushed to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital where he underwent surgery to remove the bullets and was reported to be in stable condition, he added.
Mohd Zakaria said Lee was married and had three children.
He said police believed the motive of the four men was to rob Lee of his car because they left untouched his wallet containing RM988.
He appealed to eye-witnesses to contact any police station. – BERNAMA
KUANTAN, Aug 13 - A woman escaped with a slight eye injury after being shot at by an unknown man in a carjacking attempt in Kuantan, Pahang, early today, adding to the rise in gun-related crime.
Kuantan police chief ACP Mohd Jasmani Yusoff said the woman, Ruzelawati Basri, suffered injury in the right eye caused by glass fragments and was treated at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital.
In the 4am incident, Ruzelawati was driving a Toyota Alphard (MPV) alone from her Taman Mirama house and stopped for fuel at a petrol kiosk, he told state news agency Bernama.
He said the 35-year-old left the petrol kiosk and stopped along Jalan Haji Ahmad to phone her ex-husband in Putrajaya before being approached by a man who arrived in a dark blue car.
"Ruzelawati said the man who was holding a pistol knocked on the car and ordered her to open the door and get out of the MPV.
"Shocked, she sped off and later heard the sound of breaking glass," he told reporters
Mohd Jasmani said after about 200 metres, Ruzelawat stopped the MPV near a restaurant in Jalan Haji Ahmad to seek help from members of the public.
Single parent Ruzelawati, whose last address is at Precinct 9, Putrajaya, runs an optometry shop in Putrajaya.
He said members of the public then contacted the police who arrived and took Ruzelawati to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital.
"Initial police investigation found that a shot hit the left front door of the MPV. The motive is believed to be attempted carjacking," he added.
